Special Educational Needs & Disability (SEND) & Inclusion

SEND provision is reported upon at termly Governing Body meetings. Our SEND policy is publicised on our website in the Policies section. We have a Governor with a SEND remit; this is Mrs Sarah Edwards and a Governor for Inclusion, Dr Carol Roberts.

SEN at Farnworth CE Primary School

“A pupil has SEN where their learning difficulty or disability calls for special educational provision, namely provision different from or additional to that normally available for pupils of the same age.”
Code of Practice 2015

At Farnworth CE we provide Quality First Teaching to all learners. We make sure that all children are involved in high quality activities every day. We encourage children to become independent learners and thinkers. Children learn in many different ways; we make sure that all learning styles are catered for. We do this through a process called differentiation.

At Farnworth CE Primary School we make regular assessments of progress for all pupils. Where progress continues to be less than expected the class teacher, working with the SENDCO, assess whether the child has SEN. This may involve working with external agencies such as Halton’s SEN support teachers or Halton’s Educational Psychologist team.

Inclusion at Farnworth CE Primary School

The term inclusion describes the removal of barriers. To “include” is to embrace all people regardless of race, creed, gender, age or disability and to include everybody in society’s economic and cultural activities.

In educational terms, inclusion has become an accepted term to describe a shift in educational provision away from segregating pupils in special schools on the grounds of disability, both learning and physical, and instead placing increasing numbers of such children in mainstream schools. It also involves issues of whole school ethos, curriculum planning, admission arrangements and communication with parents.

At Farnworth CE Primary School we believe that we should treat everybody equally regardless of their race, faith, gender, age or ability. We welcome all children to learn and play together, support them as they develop into open minded, tolerant young people who are prepared to live in a multicultural, multi-faith and cohesive society.

At Farnworth CE we aim to ensure that all children reach their potential. Inclusion is a way of increasing the presence, participation and achievement of all children in our school. We believe that your child’s education is a partnership between home, school and pupils and this is known as ‘the triangle of success’. We encourage you to be fully involved with your child’s learning.

We are proud to hold the Inclusion Quality Mark ‘Flagship’ status. Please see below for our latest IQM report.
